* According to Regulation (EU) 432/2012, the beneficial effect of activated charcoal can be obtained by consuming 1 gram at least 30 minutes before meals and 1 gram immediately after meals.
When ingested, activated charcoal can fix toxic substances in the gut on its surface and thus prevent their absorption into the body. This fixation is called absorption, a physico-chemical phenomenon that involves the attraction of atoms, ions or molecules in a gas or liquid to a solid surface. If caught, the toxins are eliminated in the feces, and the charcoal is not absorbed at any level of the digestive tract.
